Hello everyone! What did Adjacent Space do in the month of November?

We hired Deaf and hearing interpreters in our business; this is the grant and donations at work! We’re looking forward to seeing more!

We just launched our “Community Accessibility” survey—the purpose of the survey is to learn more about barriers in our community. The link to this survey is in this post: Community Survey: https://tinyurl.com/y4so8bqj. Your answers will greatly help us find out what we need to do next for our communities!

On November 19, Council of Organizations Serving Deaf Alabamians (COSDA) invited Adjacent Space to present about our organization and to discuss with other organizations part of COSDA about issues facing our communities. We look forward to working with COSDA!

The ClearMask Campaign has given away over 5,000 masks to all communities including institutions, schools, companies, businesses, organizations, and more! Already over 5,000 masks? We’re thankful, honored, and touched by your help and support in this campaign! This is any example of a caring community bringing everyone together to make a successful campaign for all communities!

On November 13, partners involved in this ClearMask campaign went to four different cities in Alabama on that day. They are: Huntsville, Birmingham, Talladega, and Mobile. We were to give away masks to anyone who came to the distribution center at the hour of 5:30-6:30pm of that day. We’ve given away over 700 masks to almost 100 individuals that attended the center that day! We want to express our gratitude for people who came and volunteered their time on that day!

On November 9, Adjacent Space partnered with Thank You Books to allow us to use storytelling in ASL translation! The title of the book was Corduroy, and Desiree Dorsey was the Deaf interpreter for this event. Thanks to Thank You Books for the partnership and we look forward to more in future!

On November 12, Adjacent Space just debuted its first installment: How to Create Space for Equity Series. This is where we will have conversations and discussions with different minority organizations. Our first conversation was with Magic City Acceptance Center, where we discussed about intersectionality. It was insightful, provoking, and fascinating. We talked about how can we help push for open-mindedness and inclusion in our communities. We’re already looking forward to more!

Adjacent Space’s Holiday Drive-in Captioned Movie still has tickets available for sale! Grab them before they’re all out! The ticket is $25 per vehicle. The ticket includes a pass to two movies: Polar Express and Elf. You will get two complimentary, free bags of popcorn with your ticket! There will be concessions where you can buy food and drinks at the premises. Curious? Need more information? Check out our website at www.adjacentspace.org and you will instantly see the flyer, information, and where to buy tickets to the event! We hope to see you there!!
