Learn about your rights tonight during our Americans With Disabilities Act Q&A with local ADA lawyer Ed Zwilling! This Q&A will start at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be on Zoom. You can ask questions during the Q&A, either via a typed chat or on-camera via sign language. Register here: tinyurl.com/AdjacentSpaceADA. See you tonight!

Adjacent Space is also making investments to upgrade our virtual meeting platform to provide live captions and transcript services for our meetings and events. With Covid-19 still a very real threat to public health, we are planning and preparing for an extended online calendar of events, and we want to ensure the accessibility needed for all in that virtual space.

Last year, Adjacent Space hosted an event called “How to Create Space for Equity Series” and we partnered with Magic City Acceptance Center. This year we are hosting with a new business. They are Iron City Social. This event will be on October 26. We will discuss more about social media accessibility and inclusion. They will be explaining their platform and we will see parallels between our Deaf communities and their business. We will learn a lot from them! This event will benefit businesses, nonprofits, and individuals who want to improve their accessibility for social media platforms. If you have any specific questions about this event, please email us at info@adjacentspace.org. Watch our channels and newsletters for more information!

Our Drive-In Captioned Movie event Aug. 1 was a success! We raised $600, but more importantly, we offered a safe, fun and accessible event for our Deaf, Deafblind and hard-of-hearing community! If you attended the drive-in, thank you so much for your support! We hope to work with the Grand River Drive-In to hold another event there soon.

And finally, Adjacent Space turned 3 last month! We’re amazed at how quickly the time went by and so appreciate for all the community support during our inception until now in the last three years. We will work together to make Birmingham and Alabama more equitable! Thank you and see you next month!

[ID at the end: a white background with two hands signing “equality” with large, bolded black words that read: ADJACENT SPACE. At the center of the image there is a triangle that depicts a colorful and vivid mix and swirl of colors that include the following: teal blue, green, gold, brown, gray, black, and dark colors.]
